Banner Contest
Get Ready! Get Set! Let the Games Begin!
Plans for the Fall 2008 KASFAA Conference in Louisville, Kentucky are well underway! Our conference theme for the fall is ‘KASFAA - Carrying the Torch.’ In honor of the 2008 Olympic games, we will start the President’s Reception on Wednesday evening with a little competition of our own. The ‘Opening Ceremony’ will begin with the presentation of our own KASFAA Olympic Torch by a special guest, followed by an Olympic Parade of Banners, in which each institution carries a homemade banner representing their institution or company! Wednesday evening will also be spirit night, so wear clothing with your institution or company logo. The banners will be judged later in the evening by our distinguished panel of past KASFAA Presidents.
The banner should be a creative representation of your institution or company. We ask that the banner be made of lightweight material (such as a cotton sheet, nylon, lightweight canvas, felt, etc.) and be no larger than 5 ½ x 4 ft (half of a standard twin bed sheet).
This is your chance to show your spirit and represent your institution or company in the ‘Opening Ceremony.’ So put your thinking caps on and get ready to have some Olympic sized fun!!!
Charity Drive: Blessings in a Backpack
KASFAA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our first ever charity drive at the Fall conference in Louisville next month. We have selected Blessings in a Backpack which began in 2005 with just one school in Louisville, Kentucky. The program is celebrating its second year of operation outside of Jefferson County and the Louisville, Kentucky Metro regions. This program is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children and families over weekends. The Blessings in a Backpack is a program being initiated through the efforts of concerned citizens.
Every Thursday afternoon, volunteers will fill selected student's backpacks with non-perishable food items and pass them out to students on Fridays at the end of the school day. KASFAA will have a charity table at the conference so attendees can drop off non-perishable food items and/or monetary donations for this worthy cause. If you would like to find out more about this organization, please visit www.blessingsinabackpack.com.
