KASFAA Committees
KASFAA is a volunteer organization and it is this committed spirit of volunteerism that makes KASFAA an
outstanding and involved association. Volunteering fora committee in KASFAA gives on the opportunity to expand
leadership skills, network with colleagues and grow within the financial aid profession. Some of a
volunteer’s responsibilities can be meetings, phone conferences and individual tasks assigned by committee
chairs. To learn more about the level of commitment associated with a specific committee please contact the Chair
of the committee. Our goal is to appoint all volunteers to a committee and if we are not able to place you on
the committee of your first choice we will attempt to place you in another choice.

2008-2009 Committees
Committee Descriptions
Archivist/Historian The Archivist/Historian collects,
organizes, houses and maintains all KASFAA records and historic documents.
Articles and Bylaws The Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws
Committee familiarizes themselves with the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of KASFAA, SASFAA and KASFAA. The
Committee submits any changes or recommendations to the membership for their consideration.
Awards The Awards Committee solicits nominations from the
membership for the Herb Vescio Distinguished Service Award, Lifetime Membership awards and other appropriate awards.
Nominees are forwarded to the board for consideration and approval.
Budget and Finance The Budget and Finance Committee is
responsible for developing a budget for the organization, monitoring that budget throughout the year for any possible
changes, and for auditing the financial records for the prior year (July 1-June 30). The committee works closely with
the president, president-elect, and treasurer to develop and monitor the budget process.
College Goal Sunday The College Goal Sunday Committee works to
develop, promote and deliver College Goal Sunday across Kentucky. Members work together to secure funding, develop and
distribute materials for advertising, set-up sites across the state, solicit volunteer support, work with the media,
contact high school guidance counselors and community leaders, provide presentation materials, maintain a web page
and telephone hotline and collect feedback from participants.
Diversity Concerns The Diversity Committee is dedicated to
addressing the needs of Kentucky’s underrepresented and/or disadvantaged students. The committee intends to foster
and utilize the cultural diversity within KASFAA to ensure that it reflects, represents and serves the Kentucky
population at large. Diversity is not only defined by race, but by differences including culture, religion,
socioeconomic status, institutional type, gender, and sexual orientation.
Legislative The Legislative Committee includes
representation from all of the KASFAA sectors, as well as representation from each of Kentucky’s U.S.
Representative’s districts. The Committee informs the membership of impending legislation and proposed changes to
the student financial assistance programs.
Long-Range Planning
The Long-Range Planning Committee monitors adherence to
KASFAA’s Long-Range plan, and updates the plan as the Committee deems appropriate.
Membership/Partnership Program
The Membership Committee gathers and
stores the name, address, and phone number of each KASFAA member, and publishes a membership directory. The Committee
also coordinates new member activities.
Newsletter
The Newsletter Committee is responsible for publishing the
KASFAA Newsletter 3 times a year. The Newsletter keeps the membership updated on happenings around the financial aid
community- locally, regionally and nationally. The committee gathers articles and pictures- by emails, announcements
on the listserv and by announcing it at all meetings and conferences. The newsletters are mailed to all current
members, lifetime members, the SASFAA president as well as all SASFAA state presidents. The committee helps the editor
with the layout for each edition and edits information.
Nominations
The Nominations Committee presents KASFAA with a slate of
officers for the Spring Meeting. The Committee shall ascertain that nominees for each office are qualified to serve
and are able and willing to faithfully discharge the duties of their prospective offices. The Committee also oversees
the election process, counts the ballots and announces the elected officers for next year.
Program
The Program Committee plans and organizes the bi-annual conferences
in the fall and the spring. This committee is responsible for securing session topics, presenter selections, preparing
conference programs, planning conference entertainment, and selecting conference themes.
Public Relations
The Financial Aid Awareness / Public Relations Committee
plays an integral role in KASFAA’s vision of promoting opportunities, equity, and access in and to higher
education. Some of the committee’s responsibilities include ensuring that the governor proclaims February
“Financial Aid Awareness Month” in the state of Kentucky working with KET to broadcast the annual
Financial Aid Call-In Show, and reaching out to other professional organizations to help promote KASFAA and our
mission of promoting aid programs to students and families throughout the state.
Training
The KASFAA Vice President coordinates all of the training
activities of KASFAA. There are three separate groups that make up this Committee.
- The High School Counselor Sub-Committee provides state wide
instruction for high school counselors and other related school personnel. This committee coordinates and develops
the agenda for the nine workshops throughout the state and prepares proposals to the Kentucky Department of
Education for leadership credit.
- The Professional Development Sub-Committee works
with NASFAA to provide the NASFAA Training Workshop series for the KASFAA membership. Activities include identifying
and selecting individuals to serve as the trainers/instructors for the NASFAA Training Workshop series in Kentucky,
identifying and selecting an appropriate site to host each training workshop, assisting with arrangements to
host the event, and ordering the appropriate number of participant materials. The Committee also coordinates
the registration process for the workshops, and compiles workshop evaluation information to submit to NASFAA.
- The Support Staff Sub-Committee organizes training for
financial aid support staff employees. The Sub-Committee is responsible for site location, publicity, workshop time
and date, session topics, and presenter selection.
Vendor/Sponsor
This Committee seeks financial support for conferences,
publications, and other corporation business from appropriate vendors and sponsors. The Committee also arranges
display space for the vendors/sponsors at conferences, and ensures that the vendors/sponsors receive proper
recognition to the membership for their support.
Website/Technology This Committee updates and creates web
pages for KASFAA, and organizes the computers and projectors at each conference. The Committee also looks for new ways
to conduct business using electronic means.
